  13. Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better
representing the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the United States.

The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response
to podcast host Joe Rogan  complaining that Americans were ‘completely
    trapped in the two-party system’.

‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have
a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia at the moment, which is the rise of independents,’ Crowe countered.

‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have to bring a non-party-line series of points to the argument.

‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us.
In that it’s making both of the main parties re-examine who they are and what they stand for.

Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’,
highlighting how US politics is completely dominated by the Democrat and
    Republican parties.

There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these receive
    vanishingly few votes in comparison.

Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform well on occasion.

The Oscar-winning actor (pictured ) made the observation in response to podcast host Joe Rogan who complained that Americans were
‘completely trapped in the two-party system’

Joe Rogan (pictured) is one of the most powerful media figures in the world

Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the 1968 US election which saw him garner 10 million votes and
take five southern states, while another disaffected Democrat,
Strom Thurmond, in 1948 carried four southern states on a
similarly racist platform but with only a million votes.

The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised to get on the ballot in dozens of states as an independent candidate before he pulled
out and backed Republican Donald Trump.

He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming cabinet.

Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

The former New York property developer had even considered running for president in the 2000 election under the
banner of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate Ross Perot, who
won 19 per cent of the popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral
    college votes.

Perot was the most popular minority party candidate since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the Bull Moose Party candidate – carrying
six states including California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have
taken votes away from the two traditional parties of Labor and the Liberal-National coalition

This situation is helped by a strong Green party who now have 12 senators and four
members in the House of Representatives.

Zali Steggall (pictured) became the first ‘teal’ independent to achieve huge
success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his
seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election

Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong
climate platforms but are fiscally conservative have been labelled ‘teal’ candidates.

This is because they have combined their ‘green’ views on climate with the traditional ‘blue’ approach of
the centre-right Liberal Party on economics.

Zali Steggall became the first teal independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at
    the 2019 election.

In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal
seat from former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022
    election.

She was one of seven teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench to 16, with this tally including the
four Greens, three conservative independents and progressives Andrew Wilkie and
    Helen Haines.

Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August,
has recently resurfaced in teal social media adverts.

They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some teal candidates.

Not all the 12 independents elected in 2022 were teals, however.

Maverick independent Bob Katter has just celebrated 50
years in parliament (pictured: being congratulated by prime minister Anthony Albanese)

Dai Lee, a former state Liberal candidate, defeated former Labor frontbencher and former NSW Labor premier Kristina Keneally in the south-west Sydney seat of Fowler.

And, of course, maverick Bob Katter who has just celebrated 50 years in parliament, spending 20 years as a Queensland state MP before
serving the past three decades in federal parliament as the MP for the regional far north
    Queensland electorate of Kennedy.

Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a bid to teach school kids how to fire rifles and a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

The House of Representatives crossbench grew to 17 in late
2022 when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals in protest at its opposition to the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member lower house –
the highest proportion of non major party MPs since Federation in 1901.

  16. ???? says:

The days when we were all content to sip from a fat-lipped, sturdy, intelligent wineglass is over.

Maximilian Riedel, the 11th new release of famed Riedel glassmaker and CEO of Riedel Crystal
the united states, likes to name those ‘joker glasses,’ and he has a point.
We most likely shouldn’t be sipping excellent wine from
utilitarian vessels. Preaching the gospel of making use of suitable stemware, Mr.
Riedel is indeed a true believer. Rightfully so, his household
company is responsible for whatever a revolution within the wineglass business.

Yet this begs the question, does the wine glass matter
    that so much?

A certain lot within the community will have you believe that the shape of a wineglass has no effect on the
taste you the wine being savoured. This, for the
wine loving community is nothing but a grave sin.

After years and years of wine tasting, connoisseurs have an unanimous opinion and that has been well known and accepted-
the perfect wineglass is the perfect companion for the perfect
    wine.

    But which wineglasses to buy?

Do a small experiment: pour your favourite wine in a coffee cup, a rocks glass and an excellent wine stem.
You will experience the fullest from the thin-lipped, svelte profile of a suitable wineglass that makes it
possible for swirling, considering air is wine’s excellent friend.
If your wine is stuffed right into a tiny bowl, an oddly
formed mug or, a pink Solo cup, good, you’ll fail to notice
the nuances in aroma and style.

But, most of us cannot afford to buy a wineglass for each grape varietal
(currently Riedel presents wineglasses for everything from
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to Riesling and Cabernet
Sauvignon). So we suggest buy the varietal specific glass of the varietal you enjoy the most.
When you love Pinot Noir, buy a Pinot Noir glass, for instance.

The other trick is to Spend approx. The same amount of money per glass
that you simply do to your bottle of wine.

It has been said that drinking bubbles from a wide-mouthed wineglass
as it enhances the experience completely.

Andrea Robinson, sommelier for Delta Air strains, grew so frustrated with the ‘which stem for what wine’ dialog that she got down to make The ONE-one excellent stem for
all reds and one ideal stem for all whites.
Robinson spent over three years constructing the prototypes for her glasses.
After years of tastings and research, Robinson concluded that the
2 nice shapes to begin from had been Pinot Noir glasses for
reds and Sauvignon Blanc glasses for whites.

Riedel puts some love into every wine glass they make. It’s slightly lavish and overly scientific, however the enthusiasts find it irresistible.
“We see glass as an instrument designed to highlight specifics from the DNA of all grape varieties. Our stems are designed in style workshops, now not on computer systems or on a drawing pad.” Maximilian likes
to point out. Riedel confesses to having a favourite stem-and for good rationale.

“My favourite glass has an emotional connection; it’s the first varietally specified glass ever created (with the aid of my grandfather), a pinot noir glass (the Riedel Sommeliers Burgundy Grand Cru / Pinot Noir Wine Glass)which holds 37 oz., greater than a single bottle. His different fave? The Vinum Excel which used to be at first developed to compliment Oregon Pinot Noir. “i admire this shape for many causes; it’s a multi-tasking glass.
Even the cellar grasp at Dom Perignon uses it for their rose old Champagnes.”

In India, wine sommeliers and enthusiasts have slowly yet steadily taken up the daunting task of introducing the concept of wineglasses affecting the taste of wine.

For a long time, people were content with buying one standard flute or broad shaped glass and that was that. But with the advent of regular exchange of information and the constant need to maximise the experiences of luxury, it was but little surprise that wine glasses and their variety would slowly found their place in India as well.

At present there are as many stem options as there are wines. Schott Zwiesel’sTritan line boasts a floor finish supposed to fortify the wineglass-ideal for keeping inebriated social gathering-goers from breaking the glasses. They are also promoting a completely new tasting glass called ‘Airome’, which in keeping with the website is “a built-in aroma wave,
” designed to enable extra space within the glass for the wine to breathe.

Nowadays you can get wine glasses in India from a variety of places, be it your local lifestyle store or a chic global boutique in a quaint location in town. But Wine aficionados find ordering online the best solution. A wide array of websites sells wineglasses in India. Not only are they well stocked but also offer the necessary variety a connoisseur looks for.

It is also possible to buy original Riedel wineglass series online. But locally crafted wine glasses within India are nothing short of perfection themselves. The craftsmanship is boast-worthy and the experience, in no way, falls short.

The constant talk about whether all the pain of choosing the right wine glass is worth it or not, is simply put to rest with time and experience. Once you start enjoying and admiring the variety of wine, the point about the glasses automatically slip into the conversation.

Certainly, the talk these days is extra about which stem one will have to buy and whether or not longer the wine stem will have an impact on the type of wine. As is so quite often the case with the fruit of the vine, that reply is personal. Riedel has been known to sum up when asked what each good wine stem should have, and he went on to say “excellent wine to share.” Oh, and the foremost rule of them all? Wash the wine glasses the next day, now not after you’ve emptied the bottle. Visit wine & Beer Glasses
