When in Rome

Ciao bella!
I was lucky to travel to Italy last month for a family vacation. It had been so long since I’d been to Europe, I half-joked that Vegas or Epcot might’ve scratched the itch. But in the weeks leading up, I dove into research, on stylish locals, boutiques, art, and packing. My goal: look chic (not touristy), stay comfortable, and be built for speed. My fashion brain was running on empty, and I needed inspiration beyond New York and New Orleans. Luckily, my family shares my love of fashion, art, and architecture.
Prep Work:
I mapped out boutiques and vintage shops by neighborhood, noting nearby food and landmarks. I also made a hit list of artwork and booked private guides for key stops.

I packed myself like I pack my clients: Three shoes only: A chic walking sandal for dinners, and two sneakers (a gold ballet-style and crisp white lace-ups). Scarves with everything: A very European staple—used for sun, modesty, hair, or just flair. Airy pieces only: No athleisure, denim, or chunky sneakers. Instead: cotton, linen, white tees, skirts, and a versatile button-down. Stylist fail: I forgot a hat. There are great travel-friendly options out there—I’ll pack one next time. |

Rome Highlights: Café Gran Marcel: Met the artist behind the original scarf prints—left with scarves, pins, notecards, and a notebook. Antica Farmacia: Rome’s oldest pharmacy. Bought requested skincare for my mother-in-law and Marvis toothpaste for my assistant. Manufactus: Handmade leather goods. Left with a letterpressed passport cover (“FBGM”) and stationery. |

Florence Took Everything (In the Best Way): Santa Maria Novella: Founded in 1212—truly stunning. Left with soaps, hand creams, and generous samples. Vintage Gallery: Great vintage, perfect layout, and the cutest shop dogs. Found a Bluemarine mini skirt. |

Kosmima: Pre-researched and worth it. Left with earrings, a brooch, and two rings. Gucci Garden: Every item exclusive to this boutique. Found the perfect scarf and pocketbook with the help of Mattia, my new BFF. |

Most Inspiring Moment? Dolce & Gabbana’s “From the Heart to the Hands” exhibit in Rome. Emotional, immersive, and unforgettable—it gave me goosebumps and was easily the highlight of the trip (besides sharing it with my family). |
